Tips For Visiting
Tips for your Grape Creek visit
We love welcoming our customers, whether it’s they are a first-time visitor or a long-time wine club member, to our primary vineyard location or one of our other locations, Main Street-Fredericksburg and Georgetown. We have also found that everyone’s individual experience is unique. So we created this “tips” list to make your trip more enjoyable!
Become a Wine Club Member
Wine Club members receive free tastings when they visit and have exclusive access to our wine club patio at our main vineyard tasting room (opening March 2013) and the wine club lounge at our new Georgetown location. Also, wine club members receive 15% off almost everything purchased on-line and on-site, have access to special wine club wines and can attend member-only after hour events! You can even sign up on-line for wine club!
When is the best time to visit?
When to visit depends on what you want to experience at Grape Creek.
Typically Saturdays are our busiest days. We usually have music on the patios and food providers (crepes, wood-fired pizza or bbq in addition to our picnic market) on Saturday afternoons and when we do Wine Road 290 events they are also on Saturday. It is a fun, festive environment and you can expect a little bit of a wait on these days. We have constructed and open up two tasting rooms, have a much larger staff on board for tastings, as well as, a greeter to give you a sense of the options for the day. We also conduct tours every 30 minutes (limited to 20 people per tour) including a tasting hosted by your guide in our barrel room. We do recommend our tour and taste package as a wonderful wine experience at Grape Creek that includes tasting wine aging in different oak barrels! Also, as an added benefit any time you purchase three bottles of wine we will refund one tasting fee. Our busiest seasons are from mid-February to mid-April and October thru mid-December, in addition to holiday weekends.
If you are looking for a slower, paced more personal wine experience we suggest Sunday to Friday (although if begins to pick up quite a bit on Friday afternoon) and/or a Saturday in one of our less visited months. We offer tours every day of the week as well so there are always fun experiences at Grape Creek any day of the week or year!
Grape Creek is a vineyard and winery not a bar
Grape Creek is a vineyard and winery, not a bar. We are open all but three days each year and we close at 6pm, see our hours. Our goal is to provide our customers with a true “winery experience” and we genuinely enjoy sharing our “home” with our visitors, however, we are not a bar and we would not be a good choice for an activity if a bar experience is the goal.
Most of our customers come as couples although we welcome groups as well (see “Groups” below). We do expect all our customers to drink responsibly and operate with decorum. We rarely have issues but here are a couple of good tips to keep in mind:
- In Texas public intoxication is a crime, not just operating a vehicle while under the influence.
- If we believe a customer is at risk of becoming inebriated, whether they are driving or not, we will stop service to them and their group (this is consistent with the TABC requirements and best practices) and we will ask you to leave.
- If an individual or a group arrives at the winery in a compromised state we will not allow the group to enter.
- TABC and TTB regulations prohibit any other alcohol being consumed or brought on premises
- If an individual or group’s behavior is detracting (loud, crass, obnoxious) to other customers or inappropriate with our staff we will ask you to leave.
Patios and grounds
We have extensive patios including our new wine club “members-only” patio (opening March 2013, featuring a private tasting and service bar). You are welcome to enjoy the patios, and on weekends the music and our picnic market (meats, cheeses and crackers) or food providers. Occasionally some patrons will bring snacks or small box lunches from one of our local restaurants, which is ok with us as long as you purchase wine.
Groups
We work closely with wine tour providers to ensure a favorable experience. See our local links page for some good, local tour companies. We do not take reservations for groups although we do usually suggest the largest tasting bar in our private tasting room, which we open on Saturdays and holiday weekends, for groups. On occasion (exception not the rule) some groups don't recognize the effect they have on other patrons so please see the tips above under “Grape Creek is a winery not a bar.”
